Born and raised in Damascus, Syria, Basem Hamid, MD, was the valedictorian of his high school class in 1989. He graduated with his medical degree in 1995, setting the foundation for his future in neurology and pain management.
In 1996, he started an internship at Mount Sinai University Services in New York City, which paved the way for his internal medicine and neurology residency at West Virginia University from 1997 to 2001. He distinguished himself during his residency and was appointed Chief Resident in the Department of Neurology at West Virginia University Hospitals, where he played a crucial role in training new residents.
Driven by a passion to deepen his expertise, he completed a fellowship in pain medicine at the University of Iowa's Department of Anesthesia in 2003. This experience equipped him with specialized skills to manage various pain conditions, including those related to cancer and neuropathy.
